Roof tents
Why is there condensation?
Condensation is a natural phenomenon: warm, moist air (from breathing, perspiration or ambient humidity) cools on contact with the cooler walls of the tent, forming small droplets of water. This is not a sign of leakage, but a normal physical reaction.
Is my tent defective if I notice condensation?
No. Even the best, most waterproof tents can be affected by condensation. This in no way indicates water infiltration.
Can condensation be completely avoided?
It is very difficult to eliminate it 100%, but there are several solutions to limit it considerably:
Ventilate the tent well, leaving vents open.
Avoid cooking or storing wet clothes indoors.
Choose a dry location, away from damp areas (lakes, rivers, tall grass).
Use specific accessories (anti-condensation mattresses, under-mattresses, moisture absorbers, compact fans, etc.).
What can you do to reduce condensation?
Open a window or mosquito screen slightly to create an air flow.
Wipe off excess humidity in the morning with a microfiber towel.
Hang damp clothes outside.
Choose a ventilated location, but one that is not too exposed to cold winds.
Is there any equipment to prevent condensation?
Yes, several accessories can significantly improve comfort:
Anti-condensation mattresses or under-mattresses: create an insulating layer of air between the bed and the floor.
Insulating roof covering: regulates temperature and limits thermal differences responsible for condensation.
Tent fans: help renew the air.
Moisture absorbers (rechargeable sachets or dehumidifiers).
Do all campers have this problem?
Yes, sooner or later. But its intensity depends on several factors: climate, season, number of people in the tent and ventilation management. With good practices and the right equipment, this phenomenon is largely controllable.
👉 To sum up: condensation in a roof tent is normal and natural. With good ventilation, intelligent moisture management and a few well-chosen accessories, you can spend your nights comfortably dry, even in wet or cold conditions.
💡 Did you know? A single person can generate up to half a liter of condensation in one night. With three people in a roof tent, that can add up to 1.5 liters of water inside!
And that's not all: wet shoes, damp clothes, pets and even ambient air add even more moisture.
Why does this happen?
Warm air contains more moisture than cold air. When the temperature drops at night, this moisture is released and transformed into droplets.
Condensation is more pronounced when the temperature difference between inside (hot) and outside (cold) is significant, for example after a hot day followed by a cool, damp night.
Rain also accentuates the phenomenon: water cools the tent fabric, further encouraging condensation on contact with the air inside.
👉 As a result, even a perfectly waterproof tent can appear to be "leaking", when in fact it's condensation.
What products should I use to clean my tent?
Use a mild soap (Marseille soap, special textile soap) diluted in lukewarm water. Apply with a sponge or soft brush, then rinse thoroughly. Avoid aggressive detergents and high-pressure cleaners, which damage fibers and waterproofing treatments.
Do I need to clean the inside too?
Yes, vacuum or sweep to remove dust and sand, then use a damp cloth with a little mild soap. For odors or stains, a mixture of water + white vinegar is very effective.
When should I waterproof my tent?
After several years As soon as you notice that water is no longer slipping off the fabric, or after a complete wash. Use a special tent spray, applying it all over the clean, dry fabric. This preserves the fabric's weather resistance and extends its life.
What should I do if my tent is damaged?
Small tears or holes can be repaired with a tent repair kit: self-adhesive patch or reinforced seam. Zippers can be maintained with a special lubricant to prevent jamming. If a hoop is cracked, it's advisable to replace it quickly to avoid weakening the structure.
How do I dry my tent?
Let it air-dry in a ventilated area, out of direct sunlight. Move it regularly so that all parts (including pockets and corners) dry evenly. A stored tent that is still damp is likely to develop mildew and unpleasant odors.
How do I store my tent between trips?
Make sure it's completely dry.
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place.
Avoid plastic bags or airtight boxes, which retain moisture.
Roll the canvas rather than folding it the same way every time, to avoid permanent marks.
Store window tensioners separately
👉 In short: a good cleaning, waterproofing if necessary, a few preventive repairs and proper storage are all it takes to extend the life of your roof tent and ensure comfortable nights on all your adventures.
Choosing my roof tent
What's the difference between dynamic and static loading?
Dynamic load: maximum weight allowed on the roof while driving (often 75 kg, sometimes 100 kg depending on the model, some panoramic roofs much less).
Static load: weight supported at standstill, when the tent is open. Generally 300-400 kg, more than enough for a tent + occupants.
How do I know if my vehicle is suitable for a roof tent?
We can't give an exact answer for every vehicle due to the large number of models and brackets on the market. But in principle, our tents fit almost any vehicle, from a small sedan to a large van. The main requirements are:
Roof and poles must have a dynamic load equivalent to the weight of the tent (see data sheet).
Check this information in your vehicle manual or directly with the manufacturer.
The ladder supports up to 150 kg, and the actual limit depends on your bars or gallery.
How important is roof rack spacing?
Proper positioning ensures stability and comfort:
Ideally at Ideal position: between ¼ and ¾ or ⅓ and ⅔ of the length (e.g. 2 m tent = 50/150 cm or 66/132 cm at ± 10 cm).
The more evenly distributed the bars are, the less stress there will be on the tent.
Can I add a third roof bar?
Yes, on some vehicles. This strengthens the support, especially for longer tents. ⚠️ Be careful to align the 3 poles so that the tent doesn't wobble.
Is mounting hardware included?
Yes, all our tents come with universal fasteners which slide along the entire length of the tent and are designed for crossbars up to 4 cm high and 10 cm wide.
If your bars exceed these dimensions, it may be necessary to use larger bolts or enlarged counterplates.
Additional fasteners are available for purchase by individuals and dealers.
👉 Thanks to this universal mounting system, our tents are compatible with most vehicles fitted with two conventional crossbars. You can buy these bars directly from your manufacturer or from Thule, Norauto, Feu Vert, etc.
How do I choose my roof tent?
The main criteria :
Vehicle capacity: dynamic weight and overall dimensions accepted.
Number of people: a 2-seater tent is sufficient for a couple, but a family will prefer a larger model.
Comfort: interior width, mattress thickness, possibility of leaving bedding in place.
Orientation: tents can be opened on the right or left side → plan your set-up according to your vehicle's configuration and your needs.
👉 To sum up:
Check the dynamic capacity of your roof
Make sure your roof racks are properly fitted and spaced.
The universal mounting kit is included, with adaptability for easy mounting in less than 30min.
Choose the size and orientation of your tent according to your needs (sleeping, comfort, use).
Awnings
The importance of pivot points and center distances
Awnings must be fixed as close as possible to their pivots to ensure stability and longevity, and to guarantee their self-supporting function.
FREE 270° have only one rear pivot, so only one mounting constraint. That's why they're the easiest to install and the most versatile.
Square awnings (200&250), FREE 360 and FREE 450° have two pivots (front and rear), which means you need to respect a precise center distance for fixing to your roof bars or roof rack.
👉 So, the choice of awning depends as much on the desired length as on the configuration of your bars and gallery.
270° awning: versatility and simplicity
2.10 m: for short vehicles or narrow center distances (1.40 m - 1.70 m).
2.60 m: optimum coverage, recommended if the gallery is at least 2.20 m long (center-to-center distance 1.80 m - 2.20 m).
💡 Even on a shorter gallery (2 m), a 2.60 can be fitted: it will protrude slightly at the front and rear, which is still functional.
Square awnings (140 / 200 / 250) and FREE 360
Adapted to specific constraints: high tailgate, very long vehicle or need for side surface without covering the rear.
They require two pivot points → so the center-to-center distance must be respected.
450° awnings: maximum surface area
Similar to 270°, but with an additional opening towards the front.
Available in 2.10 m and 2.60 m → but require a suitable center distance (like squares).
Perfect for families, large vehicles or extended stays.
Ideal roof rack position
For optimum distribution: the awning should be fixed as close as possible to the pivot to avoid stress and torsion.
👉 To sum up
270° = easier to install (1 pivot, great freedom of attachment).
Square & 450° = require 2 pivots → precise center-to-center distance mandatory.
Your choice depends on the mounting center distance, available length, vehicle type and desired living space. Available in left- or right-hand versions

How do I check my goods on delivery/receipt?
1. Check before you sign
It is imperative that you check the condition of your goods before accepting delivery, even if the carton appears undamaged.
👉 The law allows you 15 minutes for this check.
⚠️ If you sign without checking, no recourse is possible: neither exchange nor refund.
If the driver refuses to let you check: make a note on the slip or tablet "Refusal to check by driver" and take a photo.
2. Slightly damaged parcel
If the damage is minor and does not affect the use of the product, you can accept the parcel.
3. Heavily damaged parcel
Refuse the parcel (it is insured and will be replaced).
Make a clear and precise note of the nature of the damage on the packing slip (e.g. "tent torn on right-hand side", "twisted floor").
Avoid vague references ("damaged packaging", "subject to unpacking") which have no legal value.
Take photos of the damaged parcel and the signed receipt with your comments.
4. If you don't check on receipt
By law, you have 3 days in which to send a registered letter to the carrier to report damage that was not noted on delivery.
⚠️ But be careful: the carrier is free to accept or refuse this claim. In practice, this greatly complicates the process and reduces your chances of obtaining a refund.
That's why we insist: checking the goods on delivery is the only effective guarantee.
5. Several parcels?
Refuse only the damaged parcel, specifying which product it is. The others may be accepted.
6. Send us your proof
Send us photos of the damage immediately.
The photo of the slip with your precise remarks.
👉 These steps are essential for the insurance to work and for us to be able to replace your product quickly.
How easy is it to order after-sales parts?
